The Brief
To develop the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology campus in Varanasi as a functional academic environment comprising institutional, residential, hostel, recreational and supporting facilities while establishing a distinct identity connected to handloom and textile culture.
The Approach
The campus is organised as a cohesive network of academic, residential and communal spaces, balancing efficient movement with landscaped open areas. Architectural elements reinterpret patterns, repetition and layering associated with weaving rather than reproducing traditional motifs literally.
The DETAILS
Façades use rhythmic grids, screens and pixelated or patterned elements inspired by textile structures. A restrained material palette, shaded openings, landscaped courts and pedestrian connections create visual continuity across the campus while giving individual buildings their own character.
